Talking about the Future in English (Rules, Stories, Exercises)
In English there are several different ways to talk about the future. In other words, you can use different tenses, verb forms and helping verbs to express a future action or state.Students may think that we only use “will” to form the future tense, but that is incorrect and limited.
There are 4 different ways to talk about the future In English:
Using the present progressive (present continuous)
Example: I am meeting Eliza at 4:00 tomorrow afternoon.
Using “be going to”
Example: I am going to start eating healthier foods.
Using the simple future (“will”)
Example: I will pay you back tomorrow.
Using the simple tense
Example: All aboard! The train leaves in five minutes.
